The great Preston Strike/Lock Out

Next year it will be 170 years since the great Preston Strike/Lock Out of 1853-54, and to mark the anniversary the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire is publishing a special issue of its journal. Many of the papers are being written by UCLan lecturers.

The contributors to the special issue are presenting their work in progress in a series of free online seminars, beginning tomorrow when the line-up is:
Professor Geoff Timmins (UCLan), โ€˜Changing times: At work and at home in early Victorian Prestonโ€™
Dr Jack Southern (UCLan), โ€˜The lock-outโ€™s influence on Lancashire trades unionismโ€™
Sarah Kennedy (UClan), โ€˜Reappropriating cultural memory โ€“ The Preston Lockout. Can animation be used to reframe and reposition historical events using existing visual archives?โ€™

More will follow in the next three months. To find out how to take part go to: https://royalhistsoc.org/calendar/work-in-progress-online-seminars-on-the-preston-lock-out-1853-54-symposium/
