Gipps, Thomas – clergyman

Thomas Gipps or Gibbs, who makes several appearances in the Bellingham/Rawstorne diaries, was a chaplain to the Earl of Derby, who presented him to the Bury rectory in 1674. He gained a reputation as a fierce critic of dissenters, notably from a number of pamphlets he published. [1]He was one of the two clergymen chosen to preach sermons at the 1682 Preston Guild. [2]
