Symson, Joseph

The Joseph Sympson mentioned in the Bellingham diary is probably Joseph Symson (1650-1731), whose letter book has been edited and published. He is described by the editor as ‘a mercer, shopkeeper, and twice mayor of the Westmorland market town of Kendal. A man who, when he died, aged eighty-one years in 1731, was probably Kendal’s most senior and respected inhabitant.’ [1]
