‘Bygone Preston’ goes online

Many years ago, a chap called George Miller wrote articles on local history for the Preston Guardian. These were published as two short booklets: ‘Bygone Preston’ and ‘Peeps at old Preston: a further study of Preston in olden days’.

They are long out of print. The Harris has copies, but they’re probably not available at the moment as we impatiently await the reopening of the building.

I’ve just added ‘Bygone Preston’, published in 1956, to the Preston History Library, where there are now more than forty titles.

Pictured here are the contents page and the index. I’ve made the text searchable, so if you’re looking for something specific, just pop it in the search box.

Should the copyright holder object, I’ll take it down.

  1. Thank you for making Preston’s history publications available online. If anyone wants to view the originals, copies of both publications are available at Lancashire Archives and Local History – see Lancashire Libraries catalogue for details.
