Clergy in khaki

Steve Bellis has made another contribution to the articles on Catholic chaplains in the Great War with a biography of the Preston priest Tom Baines. Fr Baines was brought up in St George’s Road in the town, became a professor at Ushaw College and died on the Western Front at the age of 31. The article can be found here.

  1. Fr Baines is commemorated on the headstone of his grandparents, Abraham and Ann Baines, in Preston Old Cemetery, along with his cousin, James Hel, kia September 2nd 1918.
